Description
About The Book
Umdat al-Ahkam is known to be the most authentic compilation of legal traditions (Ahadith) on which jurists based their views on various issues of jurisprudence (fiqh). The book includes Ahadith agreed upon by both al-Bukhari and Muslim, or one of them. We have provided an accurate translation of the texts, titles for Ahadith, and explanations for difficult Arabic terms. Additionally, we have presented a full commentary on the Ahadith, which includes the views of most scholars on various issues of fiqh.
This work is intended to present an English commentary on the 420 Ahadith compiled by Abu al-Ghunaim al-Maqdisi, primarily focusing on the legal rulings derived from these prophetic traditions. This commentary is based on more than twenty commentaries of Umdat al-Ahkam, fifteen commentaries of Bulugh al-Maram, and commentaries on the six books of hadith, in addition to books of Islamic law.
It further aims at studying Islamic jurisprudence by directly referencing its proofs and explaining the scholarly and methodological approach to deriving rulings from their respective sources. It also highlights some of the moral lessons derived from the Ahadith under discussion.
This book includes a detailed commentary on the Umdat al-Ahkam of Imam al-Maqdisi featuring:
– Alternative versions of the Ahadith
– Vocabulary for each Hadith
– Biographies of the narrators
and
– The jurisprudence of the Hadith.
It focuses on juristic issues derived from the text of the Ahadith and the methodology of extracting rulings by referencing the principles of Islamic legal theory and the legal maxims of fiqh.
