From the plots of the Shayṭān (Satan) and his traps which he uses to mislead people is music and singing. He makes it seem good to them so that their hearts become preoccupied with it and are diverted from the Qur’ān and causes them to become preoccupied with disobedience and the other barriers that keep them from the Mercy of their Lord.

People of reason and knowledge, through faith in the Sharī‘ah, therefore, must beware of Shayṭān’s trickery with this. In this small, yet effective booklet, Ibn al-Qayyim (raḥimahullāh) addresses the issue of music and its effects on the soul and how it leads people away from remembrance of Allāh, and how the Shayṭān uses it as his voice to call people to sin.
